Goals & Path To Realization

(First Published in 2016, Still Relevant)

By the grace of the Holy Spirit, I have been able to share twice on Goals. Much more importantly we give Him all the praise for the testimonies that have trailed those posts.

Today, I would like to share with you how to take your goals from conception stage to realization, an area where many dreams remain just that – dreams. I encourage you to be diligent in taking these steps, and stay with the process. As it works for me, I am sure it would work for you too.

Action Point 1. Write Down Your Goals & Keep Them In Your Face!

Write down the vision, make it plain upon the table, that he who sees them may run with them, says Scrupture. So, maybe most of us do in fact write them down. Then what? Haha! Caught you there! You are not alone if you just dump the goals in the note book, waiting for another time; or you know it’s there but .. yes, I will look them up again – someday!

I counsel that you put your goals where they can ‘confront’ you DAILY; where they can’t be ignored. This will ensure you constantly, consciously or otherwise think about them. And I am sure you have heard it said that when you constantly obsess about something, it eventually consumes you.

Choose a location best suited for you. Mine are my mobile gadgets – phone, tablet and laptop – my mobile offices! I have synchronized my calendar and Reminders with my goals, that they ‘annoyingly’ pop up at regular intervals. This drives me ‘nuts’ at times but they do work!

This way, they become my dominant thoughts; and I have no choice but to constantly work at them until realization.

Action Point 2. Allocate 30 Minutes/Day To Your Goals.

Spend at least 30 minutes every day on your goals – working on them, making plans, making adjustments where necessary.

Everybody claims to be busy, right? So, where will the 30 minutes come from? Let me show you where.

No matter how tight your schedule may be, research shows that there are activities you carry out which, for lack of better word, I will call “unproductive” (forgive me if that offends you😜). Examples – chatting, watching TV (gotcha!!!), even travel time on buses, taxis, trains (if you’re that lucky) etc. So, if you cut out 10 minutes out of any 3 of such activity, you have your 30 minutes, don’t you?

Now that you can get the 30 minutes, what do you do with them? Think about the goal(s). Ask yourself questions such as – “what do I need to do to get this show on the road?”; “what kind of resources would I need?”; “what options do I have to raise these resources?” “what kind of skill set/knowledge/expertise do I need to deploy?” “How do I acquire the required skill set/knowledge/expertise” etc.

If you do this diligently, you will suddenly realize that to achieve any goal is really not difficult. Once you set out the parameters, once they stare you in the face regularly, suddenly your mind begins the process of REFRAMING, tossing the idea around to see other perspectives. This brings illumination, trust me.

What you spend 30 minutes a day to focus on will sooner rather than later become so crystal clear to your mind that it no longer seem daunting. Let me give you an illustration of this –

If your goal is to lose weight (ouch! Sorry), spending 30 minutes on a treadmill or swimming might not appear to be much. But what do you think will happen if you do this everyday for 30 days? Point made? Okay! Thanks.

However, if you still cannot find 30 minutes of your valuable time to set aside for a goal, then maybe that goal isn’t a valuable one to start with. So, remove it from your list and stop wasting mental energy thinking about it.

Action Point 3. Ascertain Why You Need To Reach A Goal.

David the shepherd boy did not just rush into battle with Goliath. Oh no. He made enquiries as to the reward for victory before he plunged into battle! See, at times you need a burning desire to meet targets. This burning desire is what would keep you going when you inevitably come across obstacles, low points and frustrations.

So, you need to ask yourself what I call the “why” questions. “Why do I want a new steam of income?”; “Why am I setting fitness goals?”; “why, why, why?”

Once you get a clear answer, you must now remind yourself constantly your “why”. This will not only recharge your batteries but also fuel a burning desire in you; and I am sure you know that

a burning desire will always get an outlet.

Action Point 4. Get Supportive Help.

You have to surround yourself with people who are going in he same direction with you, or those who already reached the destination you’re headed for. It may be a mentor, an accountability partner or someone you can agree with concerning your goals. Someone who will complement you, encourage you and if need be put the boot to your rear end to get a move on already!

This might not necessarily be someone you know very well, or even a friend. You have to be proactive in seeking such people out; so long as you get the help you need.

Action Point 5. Set Yourself A Time-line For Achievement Of Set Goals.

Time is the most important resource available to man simply because every man, regardless of status has access to just 24 hours per day. And also because once lost, you cannot redeem it. So, you need to wisely utilize the limited time available.

To achieve this, I counsel that you set schedules to achieve each goal. This offers you pressure to keep working on realizing your goals, thereby help to sharpen your focus. Once you are able to set a realistic time-line you suddenly would need no promoting to focus on only those things that will enhance your realization of the goals. This will help you discipline your flesh (remember I mentioned this in 2016, Goals & Your Role. Please get this if you have not read it.)

On this action point I need to sound a note of caution. Do not be w slave to your own scheduling and time-line. Remember, the sabbath was made for man, not the her way round. If you chose your Supportive Help wisely, s/he should be able to help you deal with scheduling issues that I have no time to discuss here.

Action Point 6. Incentivize Yourself.

Human beings love to be appreciated, to be celebrated. It is said that the best way to get a smile on a person’s face is to reward him. So, set yourself rewards for achieving set goals within time. Nothing motivates like a reward, well earned.

It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant, particularly if you’re still trying to build a business or profession. But it has to be enjoyable enough to make you want more. For me, I splurge on books when I hit a milestone. For you, it may be another motivation! But reward yourself!

It is my wish that you succeed and prosper. If you think I may be of any help, please get in touch with me. We will share our experience and help you with tips. My contact details are below:

2018 SHM WEEKLY TITBIT. Week 19. PROTECT YOUR VISION.

(First Published in February 2017)

That you have a God given vision does not get you to your promised land. Between the time of the vision taking hold and manifestation, you have a gulf.

And trust me, that is where most people miss it. Why?

Because your vision is from He who is VISION Himself does not protect it from the antics of the enemy of your soul. In fact, if my experience (and those of many great folk!) is anything to go by, that is when he will attack your mind the most. Same with Abraham, same with John the Baptist, same with the Lord Jesus Christ!

So what to do in the journey to your manifestation? Guard your vision jealously. Do not allow your current situation derail you. How?

(1) Always affirm your identity in God. You need to constantly remind and reassure yourself of who you truly are, regardless of what you currently face. For example keep saying this to yourself, REPEATEDLY, “I am not a failure. I am a success waiting to manifest”; “I know the thoughts my God has towards me, thoughts of good not of evil, to bring me to my expected end”

(2) Remain cheerful, remain joyous. Create an environment of praise. God will be there with you, because He dwells in the praise of His people, Israel! Something about praise that many miss is this: the enemy of your soul has so lost his own, that he cannot abide you praising God in adversity! So, he flees.

(3) Keep working on new ideas, keep trying new things. Do not remain static. Remember that Thomas Edison tested more than 3000 designs over a period of three (3) years before he got the prototype for the first commercially practical light bulb correctly. He kept working at the idea until he got it right.

I know you are a promise waiting to manifest. So, I say with confidence that you shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name.

We love you!

I want to assure you that we love you! Really.

2018 SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT. WEEK 17. STEP ASIDE ALREADY.

SHM_Burden Bearer, 03

Life can be hard consistently, especially in some parts of the world – for the uninitiated!

A mindset change is required for you to really key into, and benefit from the capacity to live above all systemic challenges in your environment. Yes, it is possible.

It is not unlikely that beset with myriad challenges, one’s soul will be overwhelmed, yet, ironically we still feel “we can surmount” the challenges with natural help. Relying on the arm of flesh for intractable problems indicates that one does not know, or fully appreciate that the spiritual controls the physical as we already discussed this year.

My friends, the smart thing to do, is yield issues and problems of this world system to He who knows tomorrow from yesterday. Yes, you and I have a role to play in solving our own problems, by doing the right thing and applying applicable principles – this is a must. However, when you have done all that, and there still appears to be no breakthrough solutions, then is the time to STEP ASIDE ALREADY!

Dear friend, trust me, our brains can not fathom the extent of His powers, or the potentials of His wisdom! So, yield all burdens to Him, for He alone is mandated to influence what happens in your world before they manifest. Why wait for a crisis before you embrace His truths? A clarion call for hungry souls still out there – come and drink from His satisfying well. Come today, come aplenty.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT. WEEK 13. “TOMORROW”

SHM_Tomorrow, 01

Dear friends, how are you this week? Hope you Year has been profitable thus far? Hallelujah!

Growing up, my parents drummed in my siblings and me that man has no power to achieve anything by himself. I am sure this resonates with some of you too. The foundation for this admonition is that only the Almighty controls the future, and we have to plan (set goals, prepare strategies for these goals etc.) firmly within His power over the future.

I want to remind some of us who may have forgotten, or any for who this is fresh teaching, that man’s times and seasons are outside the say so of any man. Yes, no matter how smart those goals may be, or hung-ho those strategies may be, you need to be alive to execute them!

A visit to the cemetery would reveal the powerlessness of man on this issue of “tomorrow”. There lies many who used to be accomplished, those for whom doors were opened and food served on silver platters! Those doors, the food and silver platters would now be used be some other fellow! Akika, Olodumare! [great God!}

So, my friends, the wise thing to do is ALWAYS to pre-fix our plans thus: “If the Master wills it, and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.” This is wisdom indeed, as we commit all to the pleasure of He who rules and controls the affairs of all men. It also show our total dependence on He who knows tomorrow from yesterday! Anything else does not really speak to application of knowledge.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT. WEEK 11. GRATITUDE & GRACE

SHM_HELPING HAND, 01

The CHRISTIAN race starts and ends with grace – Charis. Something you have not worked for is grace. For example, nobody has the capacity to pay for sin. Salvation comes in, because we are saved. And everything we can ever gain from salvation is by grace! Therefore, no man can fulfil potential without God’s help.

But we take this grace for granted at times. How? The fact that it is grace does not mean we should just keep receiving ad infinitum. We must give back. For me, gratitude is the proper response to grace. Great men who keep increasing understand, and have mastered this principle – “Receive and Give”.

Jesus Christ already paid mankind upfront at Calvary, so we all owe God our service, in one form or the other! I encourage you this week, do not stay only at the receiving end; find a way to give back by diligent service! That is how to show gratitude, and be positioned to receive more grace. Serve others, help others, love all. Simple, right?

Not at all. We live in a world of personalised pronouns, “me”. “I”, “mine” etc. We tend not to see beyond our immediate comfort zones. But, trust me, there are others far beyond your immediate vision range who are hurting, who are hungry, who are oppressed. We all owe it as a debt of gratitude for our own grace, to reach out, to comfort, to help – in all ways that we can.

Can you do that for He who loved us before we could even love Him? Thank you! Reach out today, show someone the love of Christ Jesus! It may just be a smile that you sow in another’s life that will make a difference, it may be a word of comfort, it may be a lending ear to a troubled soul. And it would make the world of difference.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

2018 SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBITS. WEEK 9. STOP ANNOUNCING YOURSELF.

SHM_Announcement, 2

It is natural for every human being to desire recognition. Something in us crave it. And smart people around us who know this, often times exploit this to get away with stuff! So, we all have the need to be accorded respect. Psychologists have a word for it – AFFIRMATION. It happens in families, in business relationships etc. So, this of itself, it is not a bad thing.

But have you noticed how it is nowadays, that some folk do not even wait for people to accord them recognition? No. They frontally do it themselves. I am sure you have heard things like, “Do you know who I am?”, “Even if I have to mention it myself, God used me to do so and so…”? I have heard it said somewhere, that it is a Nigerian thing – everyone is a bossman. But I have seen it happen with non-Nigerians too; so it got me thinking. And I discovered something.

It has to do with the greatest enemy of man. No, not the devil, sorry. It is that thing called EGO. Some call it pride. Whatever appellation we give it, it is our greatest enemy. Why? Because any one of us who cannot confront and tame it is already in a losing battle of life? Why?

Because it is the Almighty God Himself who fights such people. Remember what I shared with you in Week 10 about He being a jealous God? OK. This is how it works. So, you desire recognition, and you go out of your way to ‘pluck’ it from the mouth of others, or just ‘megaphone’ the thing yourself, what you are doing in essence is to place yourself in God’s stead.

My father in the Lord reminded us one of Jesus’ truths in a unique way many years ago. The gist of it is this – when you get anywhere, whether invited or not, seat far from the place of honor. How wonderful, and in the sight of many it would be if you are then invited over to the front! Conversely, how ego-busting it would be, if after settling in front, you are asked to please vacate for another more honorable? Getting my drift?

If you are worthy of honor, trust me, it will come. At a time most beneficial to you. Ask Brother Mordecai! My dear friend, do yourself a favor, stop announcing yourself or your worth. Leave that job to others.

Now, go ahead and shine this week. You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

2018 SHM Weekly Wisdom Titbit. Week 1. YOU ARE YOUR OWN CO-CREATOR.

20120724-095835.jpg

Welcome to a brand new year! I pray that your journey will be smooth, your story positively different this year. Lines shall surely fall for you in pleasant places, if …..

‘If’ what?

If you open your mind to your primary role. That apart from the Almighty God, you are the co-creator of your life! What do I mean? Yes, God did the work of re-creation (no, not creation; but recreation. Another day, another story). Anyway, I need you to accept that no man is the finished product at birth, not even Adam!

All God did was re-create the world in its basic form, hid minerals and resources for mankind to discover, gave mankind dominion over all other creatures with an advanced mental acumen; and expects us to create the kind of world we want to live in. Same it is for you and I.

Remember that all He created was perfect, and picture yourself in that mould. He gave your life a perfect workshop, your spirit, soul and body. For you to make of it what you will. And what we become is what we co-create – the choices we make, the competences we acquire etc. We lie on the bed we make, practically.

So, this first week of 2018, I need you to remember this – you are your own co-creator. Approach this New Year with that mindset and make something out of it.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!
