2017 SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT – Week 38. COMBATIVENESS

Hello again dear friends, how has our week been? Mine has been glorious, thank God!

This week, laid on my heart to share and encourage us with is combativeness. This noun shows a state of being ready to argue or fight, ultimately leading to being characterized as being pugnacious! Not a nice way to describe anybody, yes? But the reality is that once in a while like that we just feel like ‘sticking it to the other person, do we not?

Now, my own experience is that after my combative encounter I often feel that maybe I came on too strongly? 🙈 So, been there, done that! Ok, so this piece is not about being judgmental.

How do we think people we have ban combative with feel, during and after each encounter? This should sharpen our understanding of the real problem of being combative. If we reckon such people feel happy and left the conversation feeling better, then being combative would be a good thing; but that never happens, does it? Often than not those on the receiving end would leave unhappy and wonder what just hit them!

Now, if we accept that every human being is an extension of God, then our manner of discuss amongst ourselves, in public and privately should take on a civil tone and manner , shouldn’t it. And we should also understand the ‘manner’ part of what I just said above. Some folk have mastered the art of speaking evenly in low tones, but their body language can dice a rock in half!

So, what to do? I believe the book of Hebrews has the perfect recipe – Follow peace with ALL men and holiness, without which no man can see God! When we get on that train, trust me, our combative nature will reduce and gradually diminish. God bless us as we begin to try.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

2017 SHM WISDOM TITBIT_WEEK 36

WEEK 36. HIS LAWS, OUR BENEFIT.

Another wonderful week my friends. Is this truly the 36th week of this year already? Wow! Shouldn’t we thank The Lord for preserving our lives thus far? Lord, we praise you!

This week let us encourage ourselves on an issue many would rather not discuss, or merely gloss over. Has to do with God’s laws.

What He wants is crystal clear – to love Him with the totality of who we are; and then to love the next person as we so ourselves. Not hard, right? So, why is there still so much pain and wickedness in the world?

One simple reason this has been hard and will continue to be so for many people is this thing called ‘free will’.

God designed every human being to have it. Free will is the ability to act at your own discretion without any constraint! It is interesting, (but a story for another day) why God chose to give every human that capacity; but for our task this week, it is enough to understand why many find it so hard to obey His laws.

Whatever you think you have a discretion about, you tend to do in a way that pleases only you! Reason why many would plan for a people in a way that benefits just a few of the planners! But if we examine this more critically, we would realize that discretion improperly exercised can really become a trap. How?

Because what you do, thinking is all about you; is really more about others, many more than you! Because our actions have reverberative effect on those around us, to just on us. Yes, because we are social creatures! So, how we exercise our discretion will always after others! Lesson to learn is this: exercise your free will more about others than yourself!

Another aspect of His laws, is that God does not really need them those laws. Trust me. He has existed for eons without man and if He so chooses can still do so for eternity. So, why give mankind laws? Well, as my topic suggests – FOR OUR OWN BENEFITS.

Take another look at His laws in broad form, what some may call the 10 commandments. You will discover that an in depth study of them will show that all ten (which are really the two I started with) are for man’s own good!

So, in truth, obeying His commandments are for my benefit and yours! Seen from this angle, we should begin to realize that we must work on our minds (the workshop for all things good and evil) to compel our bodies to obey His commandments – at all times!

Would it be easy? You bet NOT! That is why each must work out his salvation with fear, with trembling.

Have a great week dear friends. You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name.

We love you!

2017 SHM Weekly Wisdom Titbit_Week 1_Imagination.

Week 1. IMAGINATION.
Imagination is its own form of courage. God Himself admitted that can do anything you envision possible! To lack imagination therefore, is to be without concrete hope for success.

Dream dreams, dream them big.

Imagine yourself getting that job; achieving that goal, that objective.

Place yourself in that role in your mind.

Let the picture of it be seared in your consciousness.

That was exactly how God recreated the world as we know it! Stop cheating yourself, IMAGINE! Those who call you crazy now will be the first to celebrate you!
You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

Financial Issues – How You Can Become Debt Free, Part 1.

We now live in a world where you are constantly assailed with a lot of advertisement, (mostly subtle), where you are surrounded by a plethora of consumer goods and items that appeal to the ego, where you are encouraged to hold plastic credit cards that offer the illusion of instant cash access, where you are required (at times by regulation) to carry debit cards even on saving accounts.
The ultimate effect of all the above on the unwary is a gradual descent into debt, often a lot of debt that way outstrips income. And the capitalist financial doctrine is very unforgiving to a debtor – personal, corporate or national!
By careful choice I have been able to avoid the pitfall of dibilitating debt, despite the fact that I have been a successful business entrepreneur since January 1990 (privileged to grow a business from scratch, employing scores of professionals to boot, without ever failing to meet commitments and more importantly without debt!)
So, I can confirm from personal experience that living a fulfilling, debt free life is possible. And so can you!!!
Also, I need you to know that since 1997 I have carried, and continue to carry credit cards denominated in British pounds sterling and American dollars; and of course, Naira debit cards. Despite these ‘traps’, I can still confirm that a fulfilling life, free of debilitating debt is possible!
If you permit, in this series, I would like to share with you tips that continue to work for me.
But before then, let me share with you an experience I had with my mother (now of blessed memory) in 1982. I was an undergraduate then, the first in fact in my family (nuclear and extended), so I had this attitude of entitlement. For those who remember that period, it was a season where Caudroy trousers was the must get for guys. (If not, don’t worry you missed nothing major!)
Long story short – I needed one and asked my Mum for it. She promised to get me one. And because I knew her never to go back on her word, it was settled in my mind. Or was it? Days became weeks that became months and no pair of Caudroy pants! Can’t she see that I stuck out as a sore thumb among my friends? I tried every trick in my arsenal – constant reminders, grumpy, rude mannerisms, subtle and obvious emotional blackmail, ‘hunger strike’ when she wasn’t looking etc. Still, no dice!
Was I frustrated! And boy, did I show it… She plainly ignored me. And I couldn’t protest to my Dad! Why do you reckon I didn’t approach the Head Master in the first place for my pair of Coudroys?
After a while Caudroy trousers faded in fashion and Denim jeans came on board. Of course my friends moved on to these new items of choice. Then my Mum bought me two (not one) pairs of Caudroy trousers!!! I mean, who does that?

My reaction? You guessed right!
I was least pleased, and contrary to my home training refused to say ‘thank you’! And I made my feelings known! I mean, what for? Who wears these things anymore? You wouldn’t catch me dead going to FAZE 2 (a popular lounge proximate to the University of Lagos, Akoka where boys had fun) in these trousers – not any more!
And then she dropped the bombshell – IF AFTER THIS LESSON YOU STILL FOLLOW THE CROWD TO ACQUIRE ALL MANNER OF STUFF THAT ARE HERE NOW AND GONE SOON, YOU WILL FIND IT HARD TO SAVE AND REALLY BE FINANCIALLY FREE!
Viola! I got the lesson, prostrated my apologies and thanks as trained and began to enjoy my largesse! Funny thing though, I thoroughly rocked those trousers, and even my Jeans wearing friends made a detour to their Coudroys once in a while! (Don’t ask me what I did in them – wouldn’t even tell you!)
Let us end it here for now. In part 2, I shall take you on a journey of how to live through this season of ‘free’ credit and remain debt free. Part 3 will deal with how to get yourself out of a debt hole you may have fallen into.
It is my wish that you succeed and prosper this year more than before. If you think I may be of any help, please get in touch with me. We will share our experience and help you with tips.

SHM REFLECTIONS_Deceit of Anger

Anger is a useless waste of precious time & a drain on valuable energy. This month beware of this time wasting, energy sapping trap so that your prayers can find expression and manifestation.

Anger leaves a sour taste in the mouth; it pollutes the environment the Holy Spirit needs to work in your life because it radiates negative energy. It exposes one as really powerless, because it takes a real man to side-step this beguiling pitfall.

Avoid anger it like a plague! It is a fool’s temporary release! It is never satisfying. Rather, it is a pull into circuitous rumblings! A Pyrrhic victory at best.

PLEASE PASS ON. YOU MIGHT JUST BE SAVING SOMEONE’S MONTH!

You shall excel IJMN.
We love you!
Happy New Month.

SHM BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS _Book 6_Our Iceberg Is Melting: Changing and Succeeding Under Any Conditions by John P. Kotter, Holger Rathgeber, Peter Mueller (Illustrator), Spencer Johnson (Foreword by)

Book Cover_Our Iceberg Is MeltingMy dear friends, it is because change is inevitable that it pleases me to recommend this month’s Book to you. It is a spiritual law that nothing operates in a vacuum, so if change is inevitable, we need to be prepared how to manage the change that will come; especially as not everybody is ready to embrace even change they need!

That is why this book is such a must read! And the plot is simple – most of the denizens of the Antarctic penguin colony sneer at Fred, the quiet but observant scout who detects worrying signs that their home, an iceberg, is melting. Fred must cleverly convince and enlist key players, such as Louis, the head penguin; Alice, the number two bird; the intractable NoNo the weather expert; and a passle of school-age penguins if he is to save the colony.

Their delightfully told journey illuminates in an unforgettable way how to manage the necessary change that surrounds us all. Simple explanatory material following the fable enhances the lasting value of these lessons.

Our Iceberg Is Melting is at once charming, accessible and profound; a treat for virtually any reader.
