SHM PRAYS_May 2015

This month, the spring of your life will get a new boost. The excellency of God’s power will work in your life.
This is your season of rebirth so welcome to your Rehoboth – this is your month of enlarged coast in Jesus’ mighty name. You shall so prosper, have robust health and live above temporal struggles that your neighbours will ask for your recipe!
We command the heavens to open over you, and surprise you. Your mountains shall be brought low, your valleys lifted! Every situation will bring forth God’s glory in your life!
Iyanu yi o se le! (Wonders will happen!)
Go forth and excel. We love you!

Contentment, 1My dear friends, at last you have made it to the last month of the year- Hallelujah! However, this is usually a double-edged month for some. Many will give thanks as we take stock of successes, achievements, promotions and even failures (yes that too for some is a source of thanks!) etc. At the other end of the spectrum, many more will question, query and harry the Lord as they recount failed ventures, missteps and missed opportunities. This has become a yearly ritual in many hearts and homes.

Perhaps dear reader, you or someone you know belong to the latter category, my task today is to encourage you and/or for you to pass unto that fellow how to make December 2012 different. It is a very simple solution – praise (not murmurings) brings the best out of the God of the Bible, the owner of the universe – before whom all issues are clear and laid bare. We have a classic example in the shepherd boy who was singled out for royalty – David, last son of Jesse, an Ephrathite from Bethlehem. As a young man and later as King, David broke almost all (if not all) the laws in the book! For offences that continue to truncate many other destinies, God found it easy to forbear David. Because God’s testimony is that he is a fellow after His heart. (1 Samuel 13: 14; Acts 13: 22). The psalms are replete with David’s wondrous praise to the Lord, remarkably from his tenure as a toddling shepherd boy till the time of his physical demise! He just kept delighting the Lord in praise! (Psalms 25, 30, 34, 35, 42, 57, 62, 63, 71, 103, 104, 146 to mention a few!)

Now, this point is interesting when you consider that this was a fellow who had problems right from his youth – regardless less of his father (a great slight in his culture); ignored for irrelevance by his elder siblings; persecuted by an insecure monarch; rebelled against by the excellency of his power, Absalom; assailed on all sides by envious and ambitious nations. For David, it was a life of unending strife and struggle, even as a king. So, what worked for him was his ability to get the Lord on his side, through thick and thin – by a life devoted to credible praise of the Almighty. God is so enamored of David’s life of praise and worship that he is not only relevant today, but will be in the new world to come!

My dear friends, you too can do this. I am sure some of you may be skeptical. But you see, the amazing thing about mankind is this – whether pre-planned or not, we are by default wired for praise. It is part of our DNA. God wired us that way SO THAT WE CAN OFFER HIM PRAISE – that is our reasonable duty! (Romans 12: 1). The only problem is our focus. On what do we shower praise – possession, position, person, or the God of all that?

So, this month my dear friends, as you begin to take account of the outgoing year, I encourage you to keep thanking Him even for those things you have been less than pleased about. Have this mindset – I am getting the best of the Lord, every day and in every way. That is renewing your mind and it will bring trans-formative power. See, if mankind really puts our mind to it, there will always be something to thank God for – even the fact that you are alive to take stock is worthy of praise. SO, DEAR FRIEND, RENEW YOUR MIND IN THIS MANNER – PRAISE HIM ALWAYS RATHER THAN COMPLAIN AND MURMUR! He loves those who praise Him, and He hates those who murmur! (Numbers 14: 27-29; 1 Corinthians 10: 10)

I decree and declare that as this year winds down, your lives will not wind down with it; rather your testimonies shall surely come; your season of favour has arrived; you will not be put to shame. As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, you shall be celebrated IJMN. Have a great day!

Dear friends, according to scripture, we will only receive forgiveness when we afford it to others. Remember also, YOU WILL NEVER BE ASKED TO FORGIVE SOMEONE ELSE MORE THAN GOD HAS ALREADY FORGIVEN YOU. Release someone today and enjoy the benefits of your action.

Take a look again at the accompanying picture. What exactly do you see? I see prescription for us, not for those who have hurt us. So as one wise fellow has said, forgiveness is really about us, not about those who have offended us, and who will continue to be like us – mere mortals with shortcomings!

Truth is, at the end of it all we all are imperfect people called to love other imperfect people. I NEED TO EMPHASISE THAT – we are all imperfect people, one way or the other – regardless of each person’s practiced façade and well-worn masks and pretentions of perfection. So, if we all are the same (and we are in the eyes of the God of the Bible, for all have sinned and come short of His glory – now or before!), we must appreciate we all need or will need forgiveness at one time or the other. And what you do not give, you will not get. Not my principle, but Jesus’, in Luke 11 verse 4.

As you head into the new working week, receive grace to let go, and let God. I will be praying for you, as I trust you will be praying for me too. You were created to excel and excel you shall IJMN.

SHM Weekend Tonic_05/10/2012_TIME TO WAKE UP TO OUR DUTY TO LOVE.

My dear friends, I hope your week has been blessed and profitable? I am sure God has been good to you. Today, I feel led to talk to you about LOVE, particularly our duty as those who have chosen to live a Christ-like life.

Life as designed by the God of the Bible is about two broad kinds of relationships – one vertical to our God through worship; the other horizontal – with all other human beings through the expression of love. This has been the template of God’s instructions to mankind since creation in the Garden of Eden. He created Eve for Adam, He charged mankind to be fruitful and multiply – all for relationship purposes. Genesis 1 – 3. That was the essence of the ten (10) commandments. Exodus 20: 1-17; which when broken down is about these two relationships – to God (commandments 1 -4); to other men (commandments 5-10). This was explained more plainly by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 22: 37-40.

How come therefore, my friends do some of us live our lives as if forming or nurturing these relationships (to God and fellow men) is an afterthought? How do we do this? Simple enough. By acting as if relationships are some things to be SQUEEZED INTO OUR BUSY SCHEDULES. Have you not heard family and friends talk about FINDING TIME FOR their spouses or children; creating time for relatives or even fellowship with other brethren? Let me make bold to paraphrase Apostle Paul – life without love relationships is really worthless.1 Cor. 13: 3.

My dear friends, each of us needs to develop capacity to spend our time, expend our energy and give our attention to relationships for which we were created in the first place. I appreciate that we live busy lives and keep tight schedules, but we must never be too busy to worship the Lord, never be too tired to nurture our spousal and parental relationships, and our relationships with those within the kingdom, and develop relationships with THOSE OUTSIDE the kingdom of God! On the last point, how easy my friends is it for some of us to judge and/or pay little attention to drug addicts, the sexually enslaved, or those laboring under the yoke of one addiction or the other?

Believe me, if the purpose of our salvation was only to get to heaven, every saved soul would have been raptured the moment we gave our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. But it is not so. We are still here – to follow through with God’s plan to reach the world through the love of the gospel of Christ. Remember that He set the precedent when He sacrificially gave us Jesus Christ because He loved us. John 3: 16. And that is the basis of His renewed relationship with mankind. And that is what we are now charged to do. Matthew 28:18-20.

The only way to commit to love is to invest time in it. So, I encourage you dear readers, find time for that spouse, for that child, for that parent, for that sick neighbour, for the widows around you, for the homeless. Find time for developing and nurturing friendships. The essence of love that the Lord Jesus Christ showed at Calvary is not what we think, do, or provide for others but HOW MUCH WE GIVE OF OURSELVES. John 15: 13. A recent survey has shown that the most desired gift by human beings crave of love is concentrated attention; not diamonds, not roses, not chocolate, not racy cars as pop culture would have us believe.

So, my dear friends, enough already of rationing our attention to our relationships. As Christ gave His all, I encourage you to give your greatest resource – your time, to your relationships, both to God and to your fellow men. That was Christ’s example. Ephesians 5: 2. A wise man once said, everybody can give without loving, but nobody can love without giving. As every act of love involves giving, I charge you my dear and worthy friends to give your time to those relationships. God bless you. Have a great weekend. You were created to excel and excel you shall IJMN.
