SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT. WEEK 13. “TOMORROW”

SHM_Tomorrow, 01

Dear friends, how are you this week? Hope you Year has been profitable thus far? Hallelujah!

Growing up, my parents drummed in my siblings and me that man has no power to achieve anything by himself. I am sure this resonates with some of you too. The foundation for this admonition is that only the Almighty controls the future, and we have to plan (set goals, prepare strategies for these goals etc.) firmly within His power over the future.

I want to remind some of us who may have forgotten, or any for who this is fresh teaching, that man’s times and seasons are outside the say so of any man. Yes, no matter how smart those goals may be, or hung-ho those strategies may be, you need to be alive to execute them!

A visit to the cemetery would reveal the powerlessness of man on this issue of “tomorrow”. There lies many who used to be accomplished, those for whom doors were opened and food served on silver platters! Those doors, the food and silver platters would now be used be some other fellow! Akika, Olodumare! [great God!}

So, my friends, the wise thing to do is ALWAYS to pre-fix our plans thus: “If the Master wills it, and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.” This is wisdom indeed, as we commit all to the pleasure of He who rules and controls the affairs of all men. It also show our total dependence on He who knows tomorrow from yesterday! Anything else does not really speak to application of knowledge.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT. WEEK 12. CAPACITY TO MEDITATE.

SHM_LEXCONSULTS_Thinking, 2
Creativity does not just happen; it does not stand alone. It begins with a thought process. It is ends with a thought process! All forms of creativity are done in between the two ‘thought modes’. Take an example. The creation of a plastic chair. It does not just happen.

There would have been the initial concept stage when what is needed is determined – an elegant chair, made of plastic. Then would have come the design stage, with all that would have gone into it – materials, shape, weight, drawings etc. Only then would the manufacturing stage begin. Once a product is birthed, then the ‘second though mode kicks in – marketing, commercials etc.

In effect, capacity to master the ‘thought modes’ ensures successful creativity. So, do you have capacity to meditate, to think things through in an orderly fashion? That is the focus of our wisdom titbit this week.

Now, meditation has been defined as continued or extended thought, reflection or contemplation. To meditate on something is to give that thing deep thought, refection, quiet time, brainwork, pondering. Do you have capacity to do that on any particular area of your work or enterprise?

If the answer for now is NO, do not despair. There is a way out. And that is by developing the capacity to do just that – think deep, reflect, spend time in quiet contemplation, exercise your brain power, and ponder. It may sound high sounding, but it is really not. Truth is every sound human mind has this capacity at one level or the other.

See, before you settle on a meal, for instance, you would have gone through this process; only that you did not recognise it as a meditative process because it usually is a short process. It is the same pattern THAT YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO STRETCH OUT! Simple as that! Only difference is that as each field of endeavour becomes technical, so would the meditative process be.

Begin today, set out time just to be alone to think things through. If you know us, you will know we encourage baby steps. Extend the contemplative period as you grow. No shame in jotting things down. No shame in how long it takes! But being already!

Now, go ahead and shine this week. You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBIT. WEEK 11. GRATITUDE & GRACE

SHM_HELPING HAND, 01

The CHRISTIAN race starts and ends with grace – Charis. Something you have not worked for is grace. For example, nobody has the capacity to pay for sin. Salvation comes in, because we are saved. And everything we can ever gain from salvation is by grace! Therefore, no man can fulfil potential without God’s help.

But we take this grace for granted at times. How? The fact that it is grace does not mean we should just keep receiving ad infinitum. We must give back. For me, gratitude is the proper response to grace. Great men who keep increasing understand, and have mastered this principle – “Receive and Give”.

Jesus Christ already paid mankind upfront at Calvary, so we all owe God our service, in one form or the other! I encourage you this week, do not stay only at the receiving end; find a way to give back by diligent service! That is how to show gratitude, and be positioned to receive more grace. Serve others, help others, love all. Simple, right?

Not at all. We live in a world of personalised pronouns, “me”. “I”, “mine” etc. We tend not to see beyond our immediate comfort zones. But, trust me, there are others far beyond your immediate vision range who are hurting, who are hungry, who are oppressed. We all owe it as a debt of gratitude for our own grace, to reach out, to comfort, to help – in all ways that we can.

Can you do that for He who loved us before we could even love Him? Thank you! Reach out today, show someone the love of Christ Jesus! It may just be a smile that you sow in another’s life that will make a difference, it may be a word of comfort, it may be a lending ear to a troubled soul. And it would make the world of difference.

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

2018 SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBITS. WEEK 10. LET’S CELEBRATE LIFE’S MID-WIVES

SHM_8th March_International Women's Day

8th of March every year is celebrated as International Women’s Day. And it is an auspicious opportunity to celebrate our women folk.

Women have come a long way since the dawn of life. They are many things to many people, mostly in my view for good. One thing though that perhaps we should celebrate more about our women-folk is that God has so designed them, that without them there can be no continuation of mankind’s civilisation. Think about that!

Without our women folk, there can be no procreation and birth! Because God does not make any mistake, there must be a reason for this! What could that reason be? I can fathom a guess.

Women are designed strong and intuitive. AND THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR IMPACT. Trust me, I know! And many wise men know this. They are able to shape lives in ways irreversible only by the Almighty, more than any man ever could. When you get graced with a good woman – as a mother, wife, sister, daughter or friend, then you can better appreciate my point.

So, on all days, and specially today, let us as individuals and society, honour, appreciate and love our women. Our lives would be better for it.

From this mountain, here is a shout out to all women – STRONG MAY YOUR HANDS REMAIN AS YOU MID-WIVE LIFES!

You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!

2018 SHM WEEKLY WISDOM TITBITS. WEEK 9. STOP ANNOUNCING YOURSELF.

SHM_Announcement, 2

It is natural for every human being to desire recognition. Something in us crave it. And smart people around us who know this, often times exploit this to get away with stuff! So, we all have the need to be accorded respect. Psychologists have a word for it – AFFIRMATION. It happens in families, in business relationships etc. So, this of itself, it is not a bad thing.

But have you noticed how it is nowadays, that some folk do not even wait for people to accord them recognition? No. They frontally do it themselves. I am sure you have heard things like, “Do you know who I am?”, “Even if I have to mention it myself, God used me to do so and so…”? I have heard it said somewhere, that it is a Nigerian thing – everyone is a bossman. But I have seen it happen with non-Nigerians too; so it got me thinking. And I discovered something.

It has to do with the greatest enemy of man. No, not the devil, sorry. It is that thing called EGO. Some call it pride. Whatever appellation we give it, it is our greatest enemy. Why? Because any one of us who cannot confront and tame it is already in a losing battle of life? Why?

Because it is the Almighty God Himself who fights such people. Remember what I shared with you in Week 10 about He being a jealous God? OK. This is how it works. So, you desire recognition, and you go out of your way to ‘pluck’ it from the mouth of others, or just ‘megaphone’ the thing yourself, what you are doing in essence is to place yourself in God’s stead.

My father in the Lord reminded us one of Jesus’ truths in a unique way many years ago. The gist of it is this – when you get anywhere, whether invited or not, seat far from the place of honor. How wonderful, and in the sight of many it would be if you are then invited over to the front! Conversely, how ego-busting it would be, if after settling in front, you are asked to please vacate for another more honorable? Getting my drift?

If you are worthy of honor, trust me, it will come. At a time most beneficial to you. Ask Brother Mordecai! My dear friend, do yourself a favor, stop announcing yourself or your worth. Leave that job to others.

Now, go ahead and shine this week. You shall excel In Jesus’ mighty name. We love you!
