SHM Weekend Tonic_19/10/2012 – The Blood of His Covenant

My dear friends, as we head into this weekend, I hope your week has been good, and that you realized some of your goals? The Lord be praised.

There is a covering that shelters from all adverse conditions and situations. It is a covering that operates in all dimensions of existence, spiritual and physical. It is powered by the very essence of Jehovah Himself. Against this offering, there can be no opposition, because flowing through it is the eternal Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ; and in it the Executive powers of the Holy Spirit is manifested. This covering, dear friends is the BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

It is not uncommon for people in difficult or threatening situations to call out thus – “blood of Jesus”; and do not be surprised that this phrase finds its way into the mouth of even those who do not profess the Christian faith (mind, I did not say ‘religion’ but FAITH).

There is no power comparable to the precious blood of the Lamb simply because as I mentioned above, it carries the essence of the Triune God. No matter the affliction, no matter the oppression, no matter the curse, not matter the stronghold, the power in the blood of Jesus will always triumph. Why? It is simple really. Sin (directly or indirectly; personally committed or inherited from forebears) is behind every oppression and manipulation of powers lesser in authority and reach than the power of the God of the Bible. It is an eternal principle that punishment will always follow sin. The only allowed exception for this is committing to the covenant in the blood of Jesus.

That covenant is entered into by (1) confessing the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, (2) deliberately entering into a covenant relationship with Him. Please understand, dear friends, that it is possible to have professed Jesus as Lord and Savior without committing to a covenant relationship with Him. These are two distinct situations. A covenant relationship is a deeper level of partnership with the Lord. In essence what the ‘Covenantor’ is saying to the ‘Covenatee’ is that I yield my life totally to you, Lord. You rules become mine, your values my forte. In exchange, you own personally issues and battles become the Lord’s.

This my friends, is the situation I am encouraging you to adopt from today. The power in His blood avails much. In fact, to use a gaming metaphor, it is the JOKER card you need to fulfill your destiny. I charge you, dear friends, to re-examine your lives and fish out those things and/or issues that will disqualify you from this blood covenant, so that you can of a truth stand on the power in His blood and excel, as you were created to. God bless you and yours. I see a bright future ahead of you, I see a nobody becoming somebody, I see abundant grace been released over a life right now, and I see crooked paths becoming straight, I see valleys and mountains changing positions to favour you. Have a great weekend!

Dear friends, according to scripture, we will only receive forgiveness when we afford it to others. Remember also, YOU WILL NEVER BE ASKED TO FORGIVE SOMEONE ELSE MORE THAN GOD HAS ALREADY FORGIVEN YOU. Release someone today and enjoy the benefits of your action.

Take a look again at the accompanying picture. What exactly do you see? I see prescription for us, not for those who have hurt us. So as one wise fellow has said, forgiveness is really about us, not about those who have offended us, and who will continue to be like us – mere mortals with shortcomings!

Truth is, at the end of it all we all are imperfect people called to love other imperfect people. I NEED TO EMPHASISE THAT – we are all imperfect people, one way or the other – regardless of each person’s practiced façade and well-worn masks and pretentions of perfection. So, if we all are the same (and we are in the eyes of the God of the Bible, for all have sinned and come short of His glory – now or before!), we must appreciate we all need or will need forgiveness at one time or the other. And what you do not give, you will not get. Not my principle, but Jesus’, in Luke 11 verse 4.

As you head into the new working week, receive grace to let go, and let God. I will be praying for you, as I trust you will be praying for me too. You were created to excel and excel you shall IJMN.

SHM Weekend Tonic_05/10/2012_TIME TO WAKE UP TO OUR DUTY TO LOVE.

My dear friends, I hope your week has been blessed and profitable? I am sure God has been good to you. Today, I feel led to talk to you about LOVE, particularly our duty as those who have chosen to live a Christ-like life.

Life as designed by the God of the Bible is about two broad kinds of relationships – one vertical to our God through worship; the other horizontal – with all other human beings through the expression of love. This has been the template of God’s instructions to mankind since creation in the Garden of Eden. He created Eve for Adam, He charged mankind to be fruitful and multiply – all for relationship purposes. Genesis 1 – 3. That was the essence of the ten (10) commandments. Exodus 20: 1-17; which when broken down is about these two relationships – to God (commandments 1 -4); to other men (commandments 5-10). This was explained more plainly by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 22: 37-40.

How come therefore, my friends do some of us live our lives as if forming or nurturing these relationships (to God and fellow men) is an afterthought? How do we do this? Simple enough. By acting as if relationships are some things to be SQUEEZED INTO OUR BUSY SCHEDULES. Have you not heard family and friends talk about FINDING TIME FOR their spouses or children; creating time for relatives or even fellowship with other brethren? Let me make bold to paraphrase Apostle Paul – life without love relationships is really worthless.1 Cor. 13: 3.

My dear friends, each of us needs to develop capacity to spend our time, expend our energy and give our attention to relationships for which we were created in the first place. I appreciate that we live busy lives and keep tight schedules, but we must never be too busy to worship the Lord, never be too tired to nurture our spousal and parental relationships, and our relationships with those within the kingdom, and develop relationships with THOSE OUTSIDE the kingdom of God! On the last point, how easy my friends is it for some of us to judge and/or pay little attention to drug addicts, the sexually enslaved, or those laboring under the yoke of one addiction or the other?

Believe me, if the purpose of our salvation was only to get to heaven, every saved soul would have been raptured the moment we gave our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. But it is not so. We are still here – to follow through with God’s plan to reach the world through the love of the gospel of Christ. Remember that He set the precedent when He sacrificially gave us Jesus Christ because He loved us. John 3: 16. And that is the basis of His renewed relationship with mankind. And that is what we are now charged to do. Matthew 28:18-20.

The only way to commit to love is to invest time in it. So, I encourage you dear readers, find time for that spouse, for that child, for that parent, for that sick neighbour, for the widows around you, for the homeless. Find time for developing and nurturing friendships. The essence of love that the Lord Jesus Christ showed at Calvary is not what we think, do, or provide for others but HOW MUCH WE GIVE OF OURSELVES. John 15: 13. A recent survey has shown that the most desired gift by human beings crave of love is concentrated attention; not diamonds, not roses, not chocolate, not racy cars as pop culture would have us believe.

So, my dear friends, enough already of rationing our attention to our relationships. As Christ gave His all, I encourage you to give your greatest resource – your time, to your relationships, both to God and to your fellow men. That was Christ’s example. Ephesians 5: 2. A wise man once said, everybody can give without loving, but nobody can love without giving. As every act of love involves giving, I charge you my dear and worthy friends to give your time to those relationships. God bless you. Have a great weekend. You were created to excel and excel you shall IJMN.

Nice piece. Highly recommended.

I'm Listening to GOD

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. -Psalm 119:11

Psalms 119: 9-11 (ESV)

9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119 is a great psalm. I love the tone of celebration, of hope, and longing for GOD and his word that David has in this writing. This is one of the first verses I can remember memorizing outside of the Romans Road series of verses. I even wrote a song about it once.

I began meditating on this verse a couple of days ago and in particular where David ask the question’ “How can a young man keep his way pure?” For which he is quick to answer: ” By living according to your…

Even for a matured Christian, life usually is not a bed of roses. No matter your level of faith or the depth of your relationship with God, there are times when it appears God is silent – to your prayers, to your feelings, about your situation; times when you perhaps feel abandoned by God. It happens to everybody, trust me – been there, done that.

Listen, He never leaves nor forsakes any child of His. However, in His infinite wisdom, there are times when He keeps silent (believe it or not) for our own good – to develop our spiritual muscles, to mature us for better things to come. As close as the Lord Jesus Christ was to the Father, there came a moment (a critical one at that) that Jehovah kept His own counsel – Mark 15: 33-34. Job too experienced the same thing. In one day, he lost everything – family, fortune, health etc. Yet for the next 37 chapters of the book of Job, God (who started the ball rolling by boasted about Job’s uprightness, remember) kept silent!

So, my dear friend if you are going through this ‘desert’ patch in your prayer life, in your fellowship with God, or you know anyone who is; what is to be done? I counsel a simple solution – HANG ON TO GOD’S UNCHANGING CHARACTER AND HIS UNCHANGING WORD. He is good, He loves you, He is with you, He knows what you are going through, He cares, and most importantly, He has a good plan for your life. So, REMIND YOURSELF of all these things – over and over again. That was Job’s exact strategy (Job 1: 20-21; 19: 25); and it worked beautifully. Why is that?

Because at times like this when you feel the world is stacked against you, it is dangerous to rely on your emotions. Emotions will only make us focus on the pain of the moment, a physical analysis and understanding of the situation; hence the tendency to react in a blasphemous manner – cue Job’s wife in Job 2: 9, whose counsel was for her husband to curse God and die.

In conclusion, my dear friends please be of good cheer. I often tell the brethren this shocking fact – no matter what any man may be going through, no matter the number of unanswered prayers, no matter the depth of a man’s sighs and groans, when all is said and done GOD WILL ALWAYS STILL BE GOD. So, as many who choose to mature in Christ, maybe we should get a paradigm shift that hard times, desert periods deepen our anchor in God; and such periods is not the time to jump ship?

Finally, as one wise man of God has taught, it is a form of deep worship and faith when a man feels (please note ‘feel’ not actually) abandoned by God, yet continues to trust Him as Job did (Job 13: 15). I encourage anyone out there who feels God has been silent, to put this in perspective. Think back to the times when He had come through for you, and rejoice because He is still on the throne. He is a man for all seasons, not a seasonal man! He is still there with you, even when your senses cannot read Him on your radar. He is working out something good for you. Hang in there, dear friend. Shalom.

SHM’s Prayer for Nigeria @ 52.

SHM’s Prayer for Nigeria@ 52.

Father, we thank you for the nation of Nigeria. We thank you for many years of your favour, many years of your loving kindness. We declare you are the Lord, no one else like you. Today, we proclaim your majesty over our land, regardless of the physical manifestations right now. We say all other Gods are the works of man; you alone are God! Thank you for your long suffering overNigeria, thank you for all that has happened, good or bad. Because we accept that you have allowed all to happen because or purpose is being worked out.

Now Lord we pray that your eyes will never leave this country. Every day, according to the time of men, brood over this nation. We have no power or will to effect any desired change. Your Spirit alone is the agent of change, we call on you to intercede for our nation. Our efforts have failed, even our criticisms have had no positive effect whatsoever. So, Lord as you are sovereign over all, let your will be done over Nigeria. You know why you allowed the Northern and Southern protectorates to be fused as one nation; so work out your Divine purpose Lord.

Father, because of your mercy, give each Nigeria capacity to embrace love in all it’s ramifications. Touch the hearts of all Nigerians, particularly the led. Our ways are evil. We think of ourselves alone. We do not love you, we do not love our neighbors, we lie easily, we blame others (particularly our leaders), but we are worse. We refuse to pray for our leaders, we fail to pay our taxes, we accept bribes, we give bribes, we vote based on parochial tendencies, we allow ourselves to be used to rig elections, we are full of envy and greed. We want to ride the best of cars and live in palatial houses when we cannot genuinely afford them. We can go on Lord, but you already know all our frailties! So, Father please intervene first in our individual lives. As you do this, use us to intervene in the socio-economic sphere of Nigerian life, in the political sphere, in the spiritual sphere and in all other areas of our lives.

At 52, we pray that every Nigerian will find a place in his/her heart to do well by this country. We receive grace to look first for the good of our neighbors and our nation. Every spirit of “me”, “I” and “mine” will be subjected to those of “we” and “ours” IJMN. Every false altar and grooves (physical and spiritual) will lose their potency and your love shall be shed abroad all hearts.

Thank you Father, because you have done it, IJMN. God bless Nigeria and Nigerians, today and evermore. God bless our leaders at every level of governance and leadership In Jesus’ mighty name we pray! Nigeria will find its destiny in you Lord IJMN. Can you please join our large chorus of AMEN? The Lord has done it!

Please feel free to share with as many of your friends as you are led. Happy Independence celebrations!
